Most of the U-Spy DVRs have something called Remote Access also referred to as Networkable or Web View. This feature is becoming more popular now since the cost of High Speed Internet is more affordable. This feature is very misunderstood and the following information helps make it more understandable. A DVR (or any remote accessible device) needs to be fund on the Internet when you are at work or on the road. Just like mailing a letter, the sender, in this case the computer you are using to view remotely, needs an address to go to. This address needs to stay stable or STATIC as it is referred to in the IT world. Otherwise, if it was always changing or DYNAMIC as they call it when it changes, then you would have to figure out that new address every time you log on to your DVR. Not fun! So the best remedy is ordering Static IP addresses (usually sold in blocks of 5) from your Internet Service Provider (ISP). Once you have the Static IPs you can assign one to your DVR so that you will always know where to go see your cameras.

Once you are logged in, DVRs offer various types of remote features. Some make it easy to view all or 1 camera at a time, go back and search events, even make a video recording remotely to your remote computer while searching. So far, Geovision DVRs are the only brand we carry that allow Apple or Macintosh Computers to use remote access. This is done through the browser (Firefox, Safari, etc.) only and there are some limitations such as viewing one camera at a time. We are hopeful that with the tremendous growth of Apple share in the PC world that this will change. Otherwise, Apple users do have the choice of using Parallels or Boot Camp software to load Windows on the Intel Chip Macs. I use Parallels and it works wonderfully!
